The Minimum Requirements of the Canada Point System
Pursuing a bright future in Canada is subject to certain caveats. Since the ambition of migrating to the country is shared by many, certain mechanisms have been established to filter the quality of applicants. The Canada point system determines the aspirant’s eligibility for immigration. These points are calculated through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool.
The baseline requirements to avail points vary across the distinct selection factors:
Core Factors
The core human capital factors can attribute a maximum of 500 points to sole applicants or 460 points to candidates applying with their spouse or common-law partner.
· Age — The candidate should be 18 years of age or older at the time of applying.
· Academic qualifications — The applicant should be a high school graduate.
· Language skills — A minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 should be attained in the English proficiency test.
· Canadian Work Experience — It is not mandatory to possess professional experience in Canada, but in order to claim points under this criteria, the applicant should have completed at least one year of Canadian work experience.
Spousal Factors
Up to 40 points can be availed for a spouse or common-law partner's credentials if they have been included in the application.
· Level of education — The spouse should be a high school graduate.
· Language skills — Points can only be availed if the spouse scores CLB 5 or higher in the language examination.
· Canadian work experience — Less than one year of professional experience in Canada will not be considered.
Skills Transferability Factors
Certain information determines how seamlessly the applicant’s skills can be integrated into the Canadian labor market. As many as 100 points are dedicated for skills transferability, for which certain conditions should be satisfied.
· Education — The applicant should have secured at least one post-secondary academic credential in order to claim these points, in combination with a minimum score of CLB 7 in the English language proficiency test and/or at least one year of Canadian work experience.
· Foreign work experience — At least one year of job experience in a country other than Canada is required to claim these points, in combination with a minimum score of CLB 7 in the English language proficiency test and/or at least one year of Canadian work experience.
· Certificate of qualification — For those practicing trade occupations, a relevant certification is required to secure points, in combination with a minimum score of CLB 5 in the English language proficiency examination.
Additional Factors
· Has a sibling who is a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
· Scores NCLC 7 or higher in a valid French language examination.
· Completes a post-secondary academic qualification of one year or more in Canada.
· Secures a valid job offer in a relevant National Occupation Classification — NOC 00, 0, A or B.
· Receives a nomination from a province or territory.
A candidate who fulfills these guidelines may gain a sufficient score under the Canada point system, depending on the CRS point cut-off. It is essential to consider these criteria while contemplating Canada Immigration, to ascertain the probability of a successful outcome.
