Canadian Economy Bounces Back with over 800,000 Jobs Vacancies

According to the Statistics Canada report in late August, Canadian employers were actively hiring workers for over 815,800 vacancies in June 2021, as Covid-19 related restrictions were eased significantly.
The report said that “The job vacancy rate, which measures vacant positions as a proportion of all positions (vacant and occupied), reached five percent in June. This was the highest job vacancy rate since monthly job vacancy estimates became available in October 2020.”
The food and services industry saw the highest number of jobs vacancies in June. Currently, many restaurants, catering services, food preparation, and pubs are looking for skilled workers to fill these positions.
Restaurants and Hotels in Canada Need Workers
The Statistics Canada report revealed that the number of vacancies in the accommodation and food services sector, which was 129,100, surpassed the jobs vacancies in healthcare and social, 109,300. Retail Trade also had the highest number of job vacancies at 94,300.

Provinces such as British Columbia and Quebec have the highest number of jobs available across several sectors.
The report also highlighted that the demand for skilled workers will rise in Canada in 2021 as more employees will start retiring or quitting their jobs in greater numbers just like the last year. As the Canadian economy is getting back on track many employees have started to plan their retirement or switch jobs.
“As the job market recovers, these measures are beginning to climb back to pre-crisis levels,” writes Andrew Agopsowicz, senior economist Bank of Canada.
