Canada Migration Process under the Express Entry System
Canada is the most attractive destination for skilled workers from across the world — owing to the lucrative job opportunities, superior quality of life, free universal healthcare and social security benefits. The Canada migration process and requirements vary across the different programs, but most foreign workers seek to enter Canada by gaining permanent residence through the Express Entry System.
This is the most streamlined and direct route to PR, specifically targeted towards foreign skilled workers who are qualified to practice occupations listed under Skill Type 0 and Skill Level A and B of the National Occupational Classification. Aspirants wondering how to migrate to Canada form India should check their eligibility for the three categories or ‘streams’ under this program:
Federal Skilled Workers Program: For people who have no work experience in Canada Federal Skilled Trades Program: For people qualified in a sklled trades Canadian Experience Class: For people with at least one year of work experience in Canada
The detailed eligibility criteria for each stream is different. However, the application process is similar for all streams, and involves three steps: Expression of Interest (EOI): First, the candidate must submit an online EOI to the federal immigration department — Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada — containing details regarding their credentials and qualifications. The EOI is valid for 12 months.
Invitation to Apply: IRCC uses a scoring matrix known as the Comprehensive Ranking System to allocate points to each candidate, by analyzing the information recorded in the EOI based on human capital factors, skills transferability, partner skills (if any), and additional factors. The highest-scoring candidates who meet the point cut-off receive invitations to apply for permanent residence through regular rounds of invitations or ‘draws’. The cut-off changes with each Express Entry draw.
Visa Application: Within 60 days of receiving the invitation, candidates must submit a complete visa application — including forms, supporting documents and fees — to IRCC. After verifying that the claims made in the EOI are true, and that the candidate is of good health and character, IRCC may grant the visa.
